Description:
Abstract:
This dataset contains four frames of aerial photography acquired for the Barrow area on July 14, 1964. The original 9" x 9" black and white aerial photograph negatives, at 1:10000 scale, were scanned at 615 dpi, and are distributed in TIFF format. This dataset is part of a suite of photos covering the Barrow area for the last six decades, and will be useful for detailed visualization and analysis. Together, the imagery will be of interest to land managers, scientists, and others for observation and analysis of natural features and ecosystems.
Purpose:
These are computer-generated images of aerial photographs in which displacements caused by camera orientation have not been removed by georectification. Distortions caused by topography have not been removed.

Process_Description:
The 1964 aerial photograph negative rolls were part of a U.S. Army Cold Regions and Engineering Laboratory (CRREL) mapping project (Brown and Johnson 1966) and were provided by Jerry Brown to Craig Tweedie, formerly Michigan State University, for initial scanning and archiving. Bill Manley at INSTAAR scanned them at 615 dpi using a Microtek ScanMaker 9800XL scanner. FGDC-compliant metadata was then finalized.
